Deux jours d’échanges et de dialogues entre croyants et non-croyants

Le Conseil Pontifical de la Culture organise, avec l’Institut catholique de Paris, le lancement d’une nouvelle structure de dialogue entre croyants et non croyants, appelée le Parvis des Gentils. Celle-ci, sur une suggestion du pape Benoît XVI, est destinée à construire un espace de dialogue « avec ceux pour qui la religion est une chose étrangère, pour qui Dieu est inconnu, et qui, cependant, ne voudraient pas rester simplement sans Dieu, mais l’approcher au moins comme Inconnu ».
Le Parvis des Gentils sera le support d’activités diverses : plusieurs grands colloques par an (Bologne au printemps 2011 ; Stockholm à l’automne 2011), l’écriture en commun de pièces de théâtre ou la réalisation d’œuvres d’arts, des rencontres (ex. avec ceux qui ont subi un athéisme d’Etat et cherchent des voies nouvelles en Albanie, 2011).
Paris a été choisi comme lieu symbolique fort pour inaugurer cette structure. Ainsi, les 24 et 25 mars 2011, trois sites de prestige – l’UNESCO, la Sorbonne et l’Institut de France – permettront à plusieurs hautes personnalités du monde de la culture de dialoguer autour du thème « Lumières, religions, raison commune ».

Fr. Ernan McMullin (1924-2011)
Ernan McMullin died on Feb 8th in his home county of Donegal, Ireland. Ernan McMullin was previously the O’Hara Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at the University of Notre Dame, US. An internationally respected philosopher of science, Prof. McMullin was also a specialist on the life and writings of Galileo. He has written and lectured extensively on subjects ranging from the relationship between cosmology and theology, to the role of values in understanding science, to the impact of Darwinism on Western religious thought.

Marzo iniziano gli incontri tra credenti e non credenti
Il Pontificio Consiglio della Cultura, il cui presidente è il Cardinale Gianfranco Ravasi, dal 24 al 25 marzo, organizzerà il lancio del „Cortile di Gentili”, nuova struttura vaticana permanente destinata a favorire lo scambio e l’incontro tra credenti e non credenti.
Secondo un comunicato del Pontificio Consiglio della Cultura, ci saranno tre colloqui sul tema: „Religione, lume e ragione comune”, che si svolgeranno nel pomeriggio di giovedì 24 marzo presso la sede dell’UNESCO; la mattina di venerdì 25 marzo presso l’Università la Sorbona e il pomeriggio dello stesso giorno all’Institut de France. A conclusione di questi tre colloqui, si terrà nel Collège des Bernardins una tavola rotonda.
Inoltre, la sera di venerdì 25 marzo, è prevista una festa aperta a tutti, in particolare ai giovani, sul tema: „l’Atrio dello Sconosciuto”, che sarà organizzata in Notre Dame de Parìs, con musica spettacoli e un incontro di riflessione. Dopo gli spettacoli, la Cattedrale parigina rimarrà aperta in via del tutto eccezionale per coloro che desiderano partecipare a una veglia di preghiera e a una meditazione.

CROATIA: The Year of Boškovic sponsored by the Parliament
Honoring the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Croatian scholar and Jesuit Rudjer Boškovic, the Croatian Parliament is proclaiming the year 2011 as the Year of Rudjer Boškovic at the national level. The Jesuit, who was born in Dubrovnik in 1711 and died in Milan in 1787, apart from being an astronomer and physicist (he is famous for his atomic theory), was also a philosopher, theologian, mathematician, diplomat and poet.
Among the events planned for 2011 is an international congress organized by our Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb to be held in November 2011.

Laureat Nagrody Nobla w dziedzinie fizjologii i medycyny w 1978 r., pochodzący ze Szwajcarii Werner Arber został mianowany przez papieża Benedykta XVI prezesem Papieskiej Akademii Nauk. Po raz pierwszy na jej czele stanie naukowiec, nie będący członkiem Kościoła rzymsko-katolickiego. Mikrobiolog i genetyk Werner Arber należy do Kościoła reformowanego.
Urodzony 3 czerwca 1929 roku w Gränicher w Szwajcarii Werner Arber otrzymał wraz z Hamiltonem O. Smithem i Danielem Nathanswem 1978 roku Nagrodę Nobla w dziedzinie medycyny za odkrycie enzymów restrykcyjnych i ich zastosowanie w genetyce molekularnej. Jest członkiem Papieskiej Akademii Nauk od 1981 r. a do jej Rady należy od 1995 r.
Papieska Akademia Nauk (łac. Pontificia Academia Scientiarum), istnieje od ponad 400 lat. Jest to towarzystwo naukowe, do którego należą powołani przez papieży wybitni przedstawiciele nauk matematycznych i przyrodniczych z różnych państw – w sumie 80 osób. Obok prof. Arbera członkami Papieskiej Akademii jest ponad 20 innych laureatów Nagrody Nobla. Dobór naukowców pracujących dla Akademii dokonywany jest wyłącznie w oparciu o ich zasługi naukowe i etyczne, niezależnie od kraju pochodzenia czy wyznania. Jest wśród nich trzech Polaków: ks. prof. Michał Heller – fizyk, kosmolog i filozof nauki z Uniwersytetu Papieskiego Jana Pawła II w Krakowie, Andrzej Szczeklik – profesor Kliniki Chorób Wewnętrznych Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego oraz matematyk, prof. Czesław Olech z Instytutu Matematyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk. Przez wiele lat w prezydium Akademii zasiadał zmarły w 2002 roku matematyk, prof. Stanisław Łojasiewicz .

ON-LINE COURSE ON SCIENCE AND THEOLOGY
St John’s College, Durham
‘The new dialogue of science and theology in mission and ministry’ is a newly-created on-line course. It is a stand-alone module (though it can also be taken as one component of a full Masters Degree course at Durham University, UK). The module is led by Revd Dr David Wilkinson, Principal of St John’s College there.
The module takes seriously the way that the scientific world is raising both challenges and opportunities for faith and Christian ministry. It explores these questions in the light of the Biblical themes of creation and new creation. It also takes seriously how these questions work out in pop culture. Be prepared for Homer Simpson debating with Stephen Hawking, Star Wars and Isaac Newton, eschatology and The Matrix.
All work will be done on line. The module will allow each student to join a learning community through on-line resources, message boards, chat sessions with leading scientists, and a different way of reflecting on theology and ministry. It will run during the autumn of 2008, with 3 hours’ interaction each week.
Tuition fees are £666 (equivalent to about €830 at time of going to press). A bursary of £80 (about €100 at time of going to press) is available for those in Christian ministry.
